Repost: Some ideas for education and creative play for children with autism
1. Throw a few cushions onto the living room floor, pretend that the room is the sea, and guide the child to get from one side of the room to the other without getting their feet wet. Show them how to use the cushions as if they were rocks, which they must step on by jumping from one to another, so they do not touch the floor at all!
2. Hold a bedsheet at two points in the room, place a light to illuminate it, and project various objects from behind. Start with items that are easy to recognize, with clear lines and shapes. Increase the level of difficulty according to the child's abilities.
3. Perhaps the easiest and most inexpensive alphabet game is made using caps from plastic water bottles. Collect at least twenty-four caps. Write a capital letter of the alphabet on each cap with a marker. Next, draw a small grid with twenty-four squares on a piece of cardboard, and write a capital letter of the alphabet in each square. Ask the child to visually identify the letters and place the correct cap into the correct square. You can also make a grid with lowercase letters so the child can match uppercase and lowercase.
4. Use small glass jars with lids and fill them with different amounts of water, from one-quarter to completely full. Pour a different color into each jar (food coloring or diluted tempera paint) so that children can distinguish the sounds by color. Give the child a metal spoon and let them "write" their own music.
